Laser Therapy
Helping to Relieve Pain at Hamilton Back Clinic
Today, more than ever, people living with pain are seeking alternative methods to help cope with issues such as:
- Arthritis
- Sport injuries
- Auto and work accidents.
Laser therapy is a treatment option that many people are beginning to discover may help manage their conditions.
What is Laser therapy?
First developed over 30 years ago, laser therapy uses a specific type of light to penetrate the skin's surface and underlying tissues to stimulate the body's natural repair processes. The result may be faster healing and reduced pain, swelling and inflammation.
How can Dr. Lombardi and Hamilton Back Clinic staff help you?
Dr. Lombardi combines laser therapy with muscle release in an attempt to speed healing. Muscle release is a method of manually breaking down scar tissue and tight muscles, which form over time around injured and arthritic joints. Breaking up this scar tissue can make laser therapy more effective as it improves the movement of the injured joint. Laser therapy also promotes regeneration of healthy tissue.
Laser Therapy has been used successfully to treat athletic injuries, acute & chronic conditions, repetitive strain disorders, tissue healing and much more.
Laser therapy can help with these conditions
Research shows that laser therapy can be used to treat many conditions. Simulating the body's natural repair processes using the healing nature of light may be effective for certain conditions including:
- Arthritis/rheumatism
- Tendonitis (tennis and golfer's elbow)
- Repetitive Stress Injuries (i.e. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome)
- Neck and Lower back pain
- Soft Tissue Injuries, Strains and Sprains
- Migraine headaches
- TMJ
- Whiplash injuries
Some of the healing effects of Laser therapy include:
- Increased cell metabolism
- Improved localized blood circulation
- Development of collagen and muscle tissue
- Reduced localized inflammation and edema
- Stimulation for wound healing and tissue repair
- Stimulation of nerve function
Typically, how often should patients see Dr. Lombardi for treatment?
Due to the combination of laser therapy and muscle release, patients are typically seen twice a week for a period of three weeks before the injury is reassessed. Specific home exercises and homecare instructions are always given to maximize the improvement of the injury.
For example, after a whiplash injury, laser therapy is usually used if the tissues around the neck and upper back are too sensitive for muscle release or acupuncture treatments.
